About me
Hello!
I’m Liz, a writer, reader, teacher and life coach from Barnsley in Yorkshire.
I write about the highs and lows of my messy midlife, but please don’t let that put you off; I try to see the funny side.
If you have read any of my work before, you know that my writing is honest and relatable, and that I like to find the humour in everyday life. Readers have described my stories as ‘warm, witty and wonderful’.
I’ve worked as a writer for more than 25 years, specialising in health and fitness writing. I also write creative nonfiction and fiction.
I’ve published two collections of short nonfiction stories: Cake, Anyone? in 2020 and Midlife Without a Map in 2022. Both are light-hearted stories about the highs and lows of everyday life that are best read with a biscuit and a brew.
In 2023, I was longlisted for Yorkshire Emerging Writer, and also launched this Substack.
As well as writing, I work as a life coach. I specialise in working with writers and creatives, but I am more than happy to work with anyone who is feeling stuck and wanting to make a change.
I am passionate about helping my clients achieve their creative goals.
Here’s what one client said recently.
“As an author with ADHD, accountability and goal-setting are vital for me in my writing. Liz's gentle but regular encouragement helped me achieve my lifelong dream and deliver my first book to a publisher. She's a wonderful coach and I'd recommend her to any writer.”
Writing and coaching bring me a lot of joy.
So why am I here on Substack?
I set up my Substack to share the highs, lows and laughs of midlife, hoping to write pieces that are relatable and to build a community of like-minded people. I share a piece every Sunday and see my Substack as the magazine that I always wanted to work on. Expect slice-of-life stories, mindset and coaching articles, interviews, book recommendations, articles about writing and the writing life, and more. I’m seeing it as a chance to experiment with my writing and see what happens.
It's important to me that everyone gets access to my best writing and conversations. That’s why my Substack is free and will remain free to subscribers. For readers who might like closer access to me and my work, I offer a paid subscription.
As a working-class writer, I am committed to providing affordable coaching and writing services. I keep my paid subscriptions at just the cost of a coffee a month (£3.33).
Paid subscribers get greater access to me and my work, with discounts on my life coaching sessions, a monthly Q&A, access to my writing sessions, and a weekly video recording of me reading my work. Becoming a paid subscriber shows me you enjoy my writing here on Substack and want me to continue.
Thanks so much for your support. It means the world to me, and I’m so pleased you’re here.
Liz xx
